Chinese New Year Celebration


This Chinese hand-scroll painting depicts street market scenes celebrating the New Year in the countryside. All kinds of figures and performers are on the street, such as peddlers with monkeys, running boat dancers, and puppeteers. Various merchants sell various goods, such as firecrackers, peace drums, food, bird and handcrafts. People bring children to join the festival, greet New Year on the street, drink tea and chatting beneath trees. This street market scenes was painted in 1742.


This Chinese painting is a collection of the National Palace Museum in Taiwan.
